The Phoukhanna is a good alternative to the Travel Lodge in a more convenient location it is just down the road from the new tourist information centre, and not to far from the river. There is an attractive, open-air, roadside restaurant that serves decent western and Lao food, and is also popular with locals. The rooms are set in back of a huge, grassy courtyard, and are nicely done up with parquet flooring and good furnishings. The fan rooms are a particularly good value, but the air-con rooms are priced more reasonably.
